Utilize predefined queries

Websphere Business Modeler v6.1
IBM Certification Test 992.5 - Queries and Reports

How to Utilize predefined queries

Predefined queries

Use the predefined queries to extract and view information about the elements of your models. For example, you can view the details about all of the business items that you have defined in your project.

Queries return information about model elements of one specified type. There are three main categories of predefined queries:
  • Details queries return the elements of other types, such as resources, roles, organization units, locations, and business items, that are associated with the selected element. You can use these queries to validate and to view the relationships between model elements.
  • Statistics queries return the number of each element associated to the selected model element. You can use these queries to evaluate the complexity and the degree of interconnection of model elements.
  • Specification queries return the values contained in the specification of the selected element. You can use these queries to validate and to view model elements of specific types
When you execute a query, the results appear in the Query View. You can also use queries as a source of data when you generate reports. The following predefined queries are provided for you to use ( ):
  • Business item instance specification
  • Business item specification
  • Business item template specification
  • Location definition specification
  • Location definition template specification
  • Location specification
  • Notification specification
  • Organization definition specification
  • Organization definition template specification
  • Organization unit specification
  • Process details
  • Process specification
  • Process statistics
  • Repository specification
  • Resource definition specification
  • Resource definition template specification
  • Resource specification
  • Role specification
  • Service details
  • Service specification
  • Service statistics
  • Task details
  • Task specification
  • Task statistics
  • Timetable specification

Running queries

You can run a query to extract and display a predefined set of information about a type of model element.
Complete the following steps:
Right-click the query that you want to run in the Project Tree view and select Run. If the scope has not already been predefined by the query, a window appears that prompts you to select the scope of the query. If this window appears, select the scope as follows:
  1. Select Whole Project to run the query on the complete contents of a project, or select Scope root to narrow the scope of the query.
  2. If you selected Scope root in the previous step, select a catalog or an individual element for which you want to extract query results.
  3. Click OK.
The results of the query appear in the Query view. If the query did not find any matches, a message appears indicating that the query returned no results. You can now view the results in the Query view. You can also open the editor for any model element that appears in the results. To do this, double-click the row containing the element that you want to open in its editor. Note: It is not possible to narrow the scope of a predefined query to the business item instance level. However, you can gather information about the business item instances in a project by running the Business item instance specification query at the project level.
