Use predefined report templates to generate reports

IBM Certification Test 992.5 - Queries and Reports

How to Use predefined report templates to generate reports

Reports

Reports provide a way for you to view, share, and print information derived from the models you have created.

The tool provides a variety of predefined report templates that you can use to generate reports based on your models. In addition, you can design your own report templates, and you can copy the predefined report templates to a different report catalog and then customize them.

When to use reports versus queries

All predefined queries have a corresponding predefined report based on the query. Use the query if you simply want to view the information, and use the report if you want to format, print, or save the information. For example, you can use the Process Statistics Report to generate, print, and save information equivalent to the information presented in the Query view when you run the Process Statistics Query.

Note: If you use predefined elements such as predefined classifiers or predefined resources in your process models, and you generate reports in one of the supported national languages, predefined element names such as "Staff" might not be translated in your reports, even though the predefined element names are translated in the product. This is a result of where the reporting function retrieves the element names to include in the reports. To avoid having untranslated strings appear in your reports, you can create your own elements based on copies of the predefined elements, and the new element names will appear in your reports in the same language that they appear in the product.

Predefined reports

WebSphere® Business Modeler provides a variety of predefined reports that you can use to obtain, view, and share information from your models.

The available predefined reports are organized into four different catalogs, depending on the scope and purpose that they serve.

The predefined documentation report templates allow you to quickly generate content reports drawn from predefined queries of model elements.
The predefined dynamic analysis reports allow you to view, export, and print the results of a the dynamic analyses that you can carry out on simulation results. These reports are generated from the analysis results view, and cannot be generated from the Project Tree.
The predefined history report template allows you to generate a record of the full version history of an element that has been stored maintained using the WebSphere Business Modeler team support function. Report created with this template get their data from the team-support data source.
Static analysis reports provide a way for you to print, store, and share the results of analyzing process models and other project elements. Even though some of these reports can be generated from the Project Tree, it is recommended that you generate these reports from the Analysis view containing the data that you want to report.
The predefined documentation report templates allow you to quickly generate content reports drawn from predefined queries of model elements.

Use the documentation reports to create records of the elements that make up your process. Aside from simple sums of the number of times an element might be used in a process, the documentation reports do not carry out any calculation. Instead, they are intended to help you in creating documents of record, or reports whose primary purpose is to describe the makeup and composition of your model, as opposed to information about how the process being modeled is expected to behave when it is in operation.
The predefined documentation reports are organized into multiple catalogs, based on the type of information that they collect from the models ( )

Note: Because business services (WSDL files) and business service objects (XSD files) are stored by the model as external objects, information regarding them may not be consistently reported or displayed by the report templates.

  • Data reports
Use the predefined data reports to extract descriptions of the business items and notifications that you have defined in your projects, and the activities that they are associated with.
  • Organization reports
Use the predefined organization reports to extract the defining information about the organizations and locations in your models.
  • Process catalog reports
Use the predefined process catalog reports to extract information about the processes, tasks, services, and repositories that you have defined in your projects.
  • Resource reports
Use the predefined resource reports to extract information about resources, roles, and timetables that you have defined in your project.
  • Simulation profile report
The predefined simulation profile report extracts a record of the simulation settings for a selected profile.
Dynamic analysis enables you to examine the simulation results generated when you run a simulation.

The predefined dynamic analysis reports allow you to view, export, and print the results of a the dynamic analyses that you can carry out on simulation results. These reports are generated from the analysis results view, and cannot be generated from the Project Tree ( ).

The predefined history report template allows you to generate a record of the full version history of an element that has been stored maintained using the WebSphere Business Modeler team support function. Report created with this template get their data from the team-support data source.

For each version in the history of a selected element, the a History report provides the following information:
  • The author of the version. That is, the identity of the person who created or modified the element to the specific version..
  • The date that the version was created.
  • Any comments that the author provided when the version was created.
Static analysis enables you to examine specific details of the contents of your modeling projects.
Static analysis reports provide a way for you to print, store, and share the results of analyzing process models and other project elements ( ). Even though some of these reports can be generated from the Project Tree, it is recommended that you generate these reports from the Analysis view containing the data that you want to report.

Static analysis reports include the same information as displayed in the Analysis view when you run an analysis of model contents. The reports also have a cover page that displays the report title, date, description, optional company information, and parameters you specified when defining the analysis.
