The Kinetic Pro 5G Standard maintains the best control/ maneuverability ratio in the ProKennex line. A head light balance and standard 27 inch length mix well with the 100sq. inch head size. It all adds up to a player's racquet with a little more power than most control categorized frames. Spin is easy to generate. Advanced players noted how easy it was to whip the racquet head through the contact zone for some extra pace and spin. Mix in the solid feel of Kinetic Technology and you have the most popular Kinetic racquet ProKennex has produced. A nice choice for 4.0 to 6.0 level all-court players with fast swing types or hard hitters with joint/elbow problems.

The Ki 5 is a solid feeling player's racquet that offers some useful pop and good access to spin. At 11.8 ounces, there's some nice mass behind each shot. Everything is kept maneuverable by a player friendly 7 points head light balance. In play, the Ki 5 rewards from all areas of the court making it a great choice for the all court player. We found some noticeable power off the ground and on serve, resulting in good pace and weight of shot. When hitting topspin shots with this update to the Pro 5G, we found a little extra kick without any additional effort. Volleys felt crisp and precise with noticeably good stability and comfort. Player's looking for an arm friendly racquet with plenty to offer from all areas of the court should definitely take the Ki 5 for a test drive. Best suited to 4.0 to 7.0 level players.

Leather grips can enhance the "feel" of a racquet in a number of ways. --The feel of the bevels for sure, but also the feel of the ball coming off the strings. Some leather grips can also add weight to the handle, rendering a more head-light balance. Here are some specs on grip weights and other items that may help you determine some variables that affect weight and balance:
Fairway Leather - 25g
Wilson Leather - 22g
Head Leather - 23g
Pacific leather -18g
Volkl Leather -30.4g
All of the above are untrimmed, straight from the package
Gamma Hi-Tech Perforated Replacement Grip - 19g/.67 oz [trimmed to fit]
Babolat "0" vibration dampener - 3.8g/.135 oz
Wilson Pro Feel vibration dampener - 2.5g/.090 oz
#10 rubber band - .7g/.025 oz
16g string in 18 X 20 pattern - 15.9g/.56 oz
Yonex Super Grap overwrap - 5.7g/.20 oz
Wilson Butt cap w/ removable window - 10g/.355 oz
Volkl Soft Butt Cap - 9.4g/.330 oz

Tennis elbow

How I cured my Tennis Elbow/Golfers elbow
I have had TE/GE for more than 1 year and 2 months.  It started Feb 2008. TE is almost gone (about 90% gone) but GE is still 25% active.
Here's what i did to cure my TE.

- rested for 5 months.
- switched to ProKennex 5G from Wilson NSix-One 95
- switched from a polyester string to multi-filament string
- changed string tension from 60 lbs to 45 lbs.
- changed from 1HBH to 2HBH.  My 2HBH is now significantly better (more powerful, more offensive) than my previous 1HBH, which is mostly defensive.
- changed from compact/fast swing to longer/slower swing and letting the racket do some of the work
- changed from powering the ball just using my wrist/arm to using my entire body (hips, shoulder turn, arms/wrist)
- started to learn 2HFH (2 handed forehand).  This is only temporary, unless my 2HFH becomes much better than my 1HFH.
- changed grip from semi-western to maybe extreme eastern grip
- loosen my grip.  Before, i grip the handle so tightly as if choking somebody
- reduced extreme topspin strokes
- strenghted my wrist, arms, shoulders using weights
- started running to help me get into the right position when hitting
- stopped competitive play, just rallies, no serving involve
- not hitting the ball as hard as before (maybe 30% reduction)
- Did stretching, massaging

Did ProKennex 5G cure my severe tennis elbow?

After using 5G for almost a year, here is what i learned.

-Exercise self-discipline and self-control.  When in pain, don't play.  Rest.  I failed this test.  I continued playing in spite of arm pain hoping that it will go away.  It did not.  It got worse to the extent that i cannot even lift a cup of coffee, cannot even open the door because i cannot twist the doorknob, cannot even shake hands because of the pain, and cannot even hold the racket.  Only then did i stop playing tennis.  But it was too late.  I damaged my tendons  so severely that it took 6 months of complete rest before i was able to use my hands again.

So here is what i learned to cure my tennis elbow:

-No tennis racket can cure a severe tennis elbow, only complete rest can.  I rested for about 6 months.
-When you feel tennis elbow pain while playing, stop and rest.  Don't keep playing with tennis elbow pain, even if using 5G.
-Use 2HB.  This helps a lot.
-Hit with less topspin.  Generating heavy topspin puts tremendous stress on your arms.
-Hit the ball as softly as you can, using only enough pace to get the ball over the net.  Don't be tempted to kill the ball for a winner.
-Add weight to the head of 5G (1 oz) to offset loss of power due to slower swing.  It also makes the racket more stable.
-Consider using Prokennex KI15 PSE to gain more power without swinging faster
-Always ice/massage your arms after playing
-Use arm-friendly strings at very low tension (natural gut, multifilament strings, 17/18 gauge) strung at 40lbs.
-Don't use stiff strings like polyester/kevlar
-Don't use light, head-heavy, and stiff rackets (under 10oz, more than 2 pts head-heavy, more than 65 flex rating)
-Use heavy (as heavy as you can handle), head-light, and flexible rackets ((over 10oz, more than 2 pts head-light, under 65 flex rating)
-Use tennis rackets engineered for comfort (Pro-kennex, etc).
-Don't swing faster to generate more power.  Instead use a bigger head, a looser string, and/or a heavier racket (in that order of preference).
-Don't play competitive tennis.  Just rally.
-Use underhanded serve because it is much easier on the arm compared to the usual serving motion.

Long Term use:
I have been using PK 5G (Head Protector string, 40 lbs) for almost a year and I haven't found any other racket that comes close to 5G in terms of comfort.  The difference in comfort is night and day.

I have tried the following rackets and none comes close to PK 5G in terms of comfort:
- Wilson Nsix-One 95, Head Protector string, 35 lbs.
- Head Agassi Radical LE, Head Protector string, 40 lbs
- Babolat Pure Drive, Kevlar/Gut string, 55 lbs
- Babolat AeroPro Drive, poly, 55 lbs

If you have tennis elbow, use PK 5G.

Wilson NSix-One 95 (16x18)

I bought a Wilson NSix-One 95 (16x18) based on a TW review.  I had it strung with poly at 55 lbs.  3-4 months later i developed severe tennis elbow.
I used a wooden tennis racket before for more than 15 years and never got tennis elbow.

i have to stop playing tennis for about 5 months due to the pain.  I resumed playing after 6 months using a ProKennex 5G tennis racket which is significantly better
than the Wilson NSix-One 95 for tennis elbow.

I re-strung my Wilson racket using a very soft multi strung at 35 lbs hoping it will become more comfortable.  However, it did not work. The Wilson racket still feels very harsh on my arms.
I decided to sell my Wilson racket and buy another ProKennex 5G.

If you currenly have tennis elbow or beginning to have one, use PK 5G.

Right Arm Problem (August 2008)

I think i have the following problems:

  1. Tennis elbow
  2. Golfer's elbow
  3. Cubital tunnel syndrome
  4. Muscle knots

Background
I have been playing tennis for 25 years using an old wooden tennis racket.  No arm problems whatsoever.

In July 2007 I  bought a new Wilson tennis racket strung with polyester.  This is a stiff and very powerful racket.

4 months later, in November, 2007, I notice my tennis arm getting sore.  However, I kept playing tennis.  I rest my arm for a few days but continued playing.

I only stopped playing tennis when the pain became so severe i cannot even sleep at night.  This is when I felt the symptoms below.

Treatment (Right arm)

I applied the following treatment:

  1. Completely stop playing tennis for 4 months (Feb - May 2008)
  2. Do stretching
  3. Do DIY massage (do it yourself)
  4. Do heat therapy (soak arm in hot water for 25 minutes)
  5. Do weight-lifting (5 - 10 lbs weights)
  6. Started playing tennis (2 hours) after 5 months..Pain came back.  So rest again.
  7. Started practicing tennis against the wall using two handed backhand/forehand (May - June 2008)
  8. Started practising tennis against the wall using left hand alone (June-Aug 2008)

Current - August 2008

Still cannot play Tennis as before.  My right-arm gets re-injured easily.

This racket came pre-strung with poly. very harsh on arms.

Cut poly and re-strung with Head Protector.

More comfortable/powerful compared to pre-strung poly.

However, the PK 5G is still more significantly comfortable (same string/tension)

String hardly moves at all even when hitting with topspin.

Good.  May reduce lower to 40 lbs.

String hardly moves at all even when hitting with topspin.

Good.  Very comfortable.  Try 35 lbs. next time.

String hardly moves at all even when hitting with topspin.

Poly very durable but hard on the arms.  Don't use again.  This racket strung with poly caused my tennis elbow.

much Softer compared to poly..  String moves a lot specially when hitting with topspin. String at 35 lbs next time.

This racket still harsh on the arm even when strung with very soft multi at 35 lbs.

In terms of comfort, it does not even come close to PK 5G (strung at 40 lbs, same string, Head Protector). This racket is definitely not for players with tennis elbow.  The only comfortable hit is when you hit the sweetspot, which is very small.

Conclusion:  Get rid of this racket
